MouseKBoarders VS. Gamepads VS. Joysticks

"I ain't got better – I just changed the controller setup".

Crap, I was a X-Box gamepad user and now I play WT casual level style – only for better grinding. It's funny, with standard controller configuration you can achieve way more. This type of gameplay should be featured as 'Fly-by-Wire for retro planes'. I often wondered about the highscores, now I realize that even me can be a super air superiority ace pilot having multiple win streaks in a row.

This topic has been on my mind since some time. The whole situation can not be changed, we've come too far – so here is a little fact sheet – just in case other players call me a n00b again (those b00ns):

Fact #1
Owners of command chairs know that such types of simulators can do serious stuff.

Fact #2
Joysticks players are on a pro sim level.

Fact #3
Gamepad users have the better comfort and good precision.

Fact #4
Users of mouse and keyboard allways win.

Fact #5
n00bs use preset steering assistance in video games to outmatch us all!!

Times are changing – How a game led to a real car

I'm no console player since I prefer PC's. However this catched my attention.

I'm talking about Gran Tourismo (GT) which is known to most people as a PlayStation merchandise. Ever since GT1 this game features the biggest amount of playable cars in history and now also takes a closer look at future developments and the need to create real world cars which gamers can relate to in best case (since they are a lucrative targeting group). Said simple, in order to stay on top – this is a perfect marketing strategy for car companies: For the upcoming GT6 the goal is to create unique concept cars by companies like Mercedes Benz, Audi, BMW, Nissan, VW, Zagato or Giugiaro. The first one got finished is the Mercedes AMG Vision – looks futuristic and elegant with a touch of speed and retro. In conclusion this car was built and recently showed at the Los Angeles Motor Show 2013. IMO Great design and great game idea. Keep up the path, I wanna see gamer cars drive around. I will update this post when some new GT6 concept cars get "press released" or built.

See how the real Mercedes looks like:

And now let's take a look at the whole story as a sketch:

As usual I hope I didn't touch any copyrights.

Random fun: This ain't realistic but entertaining

VTOL Power*shouting!! Unlike IL-2 as we know it this ain't serious but big fun – a vertical take-off from a Carrier. That carrier must have something like a Warp Drive plus apparently it also produces Anti-Gravity. ;)

We had a truly amazing multiplayer session discovering the powers of some overmodded ships. Many effects were the result including lightspeed or railgun starts, super epic fails, formation VTOL starts and a bullet time hover without moving. Some may call it bugs but it is the best gaming fun ever! It's Ravelli's map (great job), he was there, too. Also 1000 thanks to the player "ForestSwamp" and "Maykay...?" – they helped me find all those bugs. Captured within IL-2 1946 – The best Flight Simulator around!

It only works with a couple of planes. I prefered to use the Komet Me 163 since some time ago I saw funny vids of it doing different things other planes can't handle. Other testing planes were: Go229, Mig-9, Ju88 Mistel, Ta183 and Ar234 and some I can't recall. Landing ain't easy because it's like you are slower approaching fullspeed compared to that ship. Worked best with a japanise ship  – that's why I call it the mighty Battleship Yamato. ;)

Maybe this bugs have been discovered by other players before, heres my VTOL thing and by the way a little preview of my carbon Me 163 skin:

Futurama Take 1

Retro Planet Express Ship and it's lil' Shuttlecraft:

Random fact to add: The concept design of this spacecraft was done by one of the guys who made the movie Blade Runner look epic. Conclusion: It's not just a comic ship. ;)

A future retrospective

Way back in the 30's – a postcard showing a German city (Stuttgart, called "Benz Town") and how they expected the future to look like. Seems Moore's law wasn't available for guessing the trends. :) ...I can tell you I've been there often and nothing there looks like the picture below:

Greetings! As always, I hope I didn't touch any copyrights. And by the way, this also was a real postcard, I'm not kidding. :)

Cat's are the best ...and Dolphins of course!

Real Dolphins, yes but...

Speaking of Dolphins, how about this? It has incredible manuevering beeing the holy grail of fun vehicles:

And for the speed addicts - the shark is out there!

Actually no submarines, those Seabreachers can do some little diving. On the other side they can do amazings jumps and tricks. Invented in USA those jetski boats are available as customized productions. This means they add what you want, it's all modular on request (based on the limited space). They even do individual airbrush paint jobs. Not cheap at all but big fun for sure. I cannot afford one so I wanted to share this amazing piece of real world technology. At least I might see them cruise around somewhere someday and who knows - keyword: Seatsharing. :)

Another boat they invented: The Orca.

And now Ladies and Gentleman, a Cat! Yes cat's are the best:

Steampunk Baby!

Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow. Note the flying whatever's behind the front plane. Excellent design – reminds of a Horten 229 but in this case with birds wings solving all Ho229 low speed issues. ;)

By the way: Some fun (Princess Vespas hot new ride)

A Screenshot I took from the movie Spaceballs. One of my all time favorite movies. This is Princess Vespa's hot new future ride (viewed from an 80's perspective of sci-fi design). It might be too sharp edged but it's cute isn't it? :D
